At Granby elementary the third graders get to learn how to play the recorder. Rachel actually learned last year at village academy and she was a little put out that she had to do it again- that is she was put out until she actually started doing it. They use a recorder karate system at Granby where the kids get "belts" (or pieces of string around their recorders) for each level that they pass. Rachel got so into this incentive program that she stayed in at recess and practiced after school. She got past the black belt to the rainbow belt and then they added the BBB (beyond black belts) and she did that as well. She got to play in all of the songs of the night. Nana and papaw came with us and everyone agreed that for a recorder concert it was very impressive.
Our tradition is after concerts and performances we go to UDF to get ice cream and celebrate their job well done. This one was on nana and papaw.
