Back to School

I now have three kids in school! Here's my boy all ready for his first day of kindergarten. He had to say his sad goodbyes to Sarah before he left. And then we waited for the bus at the end of our driveway.

He was pretty excited once the bus arrived. When he came home he was officially a Granby Gator.

We changed schools this year from Village Academy to Granby elementary (Worthington Public School). Rachel was very sad about the change at the end of the school year last year but after one day of school they have all settled in and are very happy. One of the biggest changes that has come from this is that the kids have made friends in our neighborhood. I think one blessing that helped make this transition so smooth for us was a neighbor girl moving in two doors down a week before school started. They just moved from about six houses up the street but we met her because they had a garage sale. The little girl is in Rachel's grade and has already been attending Granby. The girls became friends instantly and since then they have been playing at each others houses everyday. She was able to introduce the girls to other children and teachers at the ice cream social before school started. All of this really helped the girls feel a lot more comfortable and less nervous on their first day of school- they already had a friend and that was huge. My girls were so excited to be able to pick out their own clothes and not wear uniforms on the first day of school. It was hard for me to not be picky and controlling about it. Every once and awhile I have to step in with Hannah and have her change her clothes because they aren't weather appropriate, modest enough, or they are just dirty (she likes to rewear her favorite things) but on the whole they are very good about picking out their own clothes. They each picked out their own book bags also. It's funny that they match because they picked them out on two different occasions without the other person there and without seeing the other persons bag. I wanted them to get back packs so once again I chose to not fight that battle. The kids love riding the bus and they love their new school. We are now Granby Gators.
