Sarah, Richard and Tom in England

A few months before Sarah turned 2 Richard decided he should take her to England while she could still fly without a seat. Most of his family had never met her and it seemed like a good time to go for it. Richard was a little concerned about traveling on his own with her. Mostly the logistics of getting around with all the stuff he needed as well as holding on to her. I didn't envy him. I wouldn't have wanted to try that on my own. I think she traveled pretty well.
She had a great visit in Eastbourne. I think by the time they left she could just about tolerate their dogs.

In Oxford Richard met up with our good friend Tom who just happened to be over there on his first UK business trip. Richard was able to do some site seeing with him.

Unfortunately, while they were in Oxford Sarah got sick. I think she had some kind of tummy bug. That's really not pleasant when you have a limited supply of changes of clothes and little tiny washing machines and no clothes dryers and a little girl who doesn't know how to throw up in a bucket yet. Sarah stayed behind when Richard went to church because she was taking a nap. When Richard got home he found that he had left his medicine bag out while he was packing up to get ready to go home. Sarah got into the bag and had sampled several things. Richard wasn't sure what she had eaten so to be cautious he took her to the children's emergency room. There they made her have a charcoal solution. You can see remnants of it on her face in the picture where Tom is holding her. She was a trooper and did just fine (we really think all she had was some Tums but you never know). She did throw up again on the plane ride home but they made it home in one piece. Her diaper was a little black from the charcoal for a few days after she got home.
